Modern Contemporary Victorian 4 Room HDB Home Interior Design at Toa Payoh

In home decorating, if you enjoy things that are modern and like to keep current with the styles of the moment, you are a follower of contemporary style. While it’s sometimes thought that “modern” interiors are cold and minimalist, in today’s homes, contemporary interiors are comfortable and welcoming without being cluttered and dark.

Contemporary style of decorating is defined by simplicity, subtle sophistication, deliberate use of texture, and clean lines. Interiors tend to showcase space rather than things. By focusing on colour, space, and shape, contemporary interiors are sleek and fresh.

Neutrals, black, and white are the main colours in contemporary style interiors. Black is often used for grounding and defining a contemporary style room. The palette is often punched up and accented with bright and bold colour that play against neutrals

In the living room of this house, you can tell that it follows a neutral colour palette, almost monochromatic. Floor to ceiling built in cabinets allow for additional storage space to keep shoes and the clutter at bay. The built-in cabinet also features a shelf for you to display decorations and pictures of loved ones. Instead of going with an ordinary one toned front door, the owners have gone with a black and white marbled design instead which truly stands out.

The owners of the house have also chosen to have a mirror installed beside the tv and near the windows, this is help reflect the natural light and make the space brighter. You can also chose to have display cabinets installed if you have prized possessions to display.

The living room also features a sleek black leather couch that blends in with the rest of the room perfectly and a marbled coffee table that matches the front door.

Forget clashing patterns and garish patterns. Contemporary interior design is characterized by their cool, muted colour palettes, featuring a lot of whites, creams, and darker shades, including brown, taupe and mauves. Sticking to this very modern colour scheme, however, doesn’t have to be boring. Try adding a splash of colour to your white walls with a vibrant painting, or add a brightly collared chair of sofa to draw the eye.

In one of the bedrooms, built-in floor to ceiling cabinets line the wall, giving you sufficient storage space for your belongings. A mirror can also be installed on one of the doors to save space.

The toilet also follows the neutral colour scheme of the house. The grey cabinet under the sink and matching shelving really stand out against the white walls. Simplicity is key.

If you follow a neutral colour palette, accents like silver and gold will really stand out against the background.

The bedroom is kept simple and fresh with light grey coloured walls and light wooden furniture. Their bed frame stands out against the grey walls and also matches the furniture. Sometimes, sticking to a simple colour scheme of not more than 3 colours can really help to bring the look together.

The master bedroom toilet matches the guest toilet with matching grey cabinets and shelving. However, the layout is slightly different.

In the second bed room, instead of painting the walls grey like the master bedroom, the owners have decided to feature grey in the floor to ceiling built-in cabinets instead.

The mix of grey and white stands out against the white walls and flooring.

In the kitchen, grey and white cabinets line each side of the kitchen, keep in tune with the rest of the house. The white counter tops stand out beautifully against the grey cabinets, an example of how colour contrasting is good. The yard has been fitted with glass doors so natural light can still flow into the house, helping to brighten up the space.

Black track lights have been installed, colour contrasting against the white ceilings and kitchen cabinets. The silver fridge is eye catching and a beautiful classy touch to an already classy kitchen.

Keep things interesting with a patterned backsplash. This will really make it pop against neutral colour palettes.

The dining area is kept simple with a black dining table and matching chairs.

You can see how the black stands out against the white walls and flooring. The simple black hanging light over the dining table helps to illuminate the space. You can also choose to have cabinets and drawers installed against an empty wall as a space filler and additional storage space.
